Trinity is (finally) Online

Well, this is it. I've finally got my own website, on my own hardware, on my own terms. Gone are the days of spinning up a Github pages site to blog from, and gone are the nights of scrolling twitter.com. Now is the time to embrace the web in it's true form: by simply shouting into the void from a text editor and hitting the save button.
Welcome to my corner of the (tr)internet. The year is 2026. As the world burns I spend my spare time tinkering with web tech and dreaming of a better world. Age verification laws are springing up, blocking access for kids at national levels, threatening the open access internet I knew and loved growing up. Corporate "social media" platforms are finally being recognised as a problem, but rather than fix the root causes we know and loathe (capitalist executives with a profit motive for driving engagement for advertising) our governments have opted for the stupid route.
Now, for the last year or two I have picked up some skills in casual web development. DNS, TLS, Nginx and all the rest needed to operate my own internet stack on a raspberry pi, accessible from pretty much anywhere. This has enabled me to replace several platforms like Spotify (largely thanks to Bandcamp and the wonderful yt-dlp project which is still going strong). I have managed to ditch the plethora of shitty TV and movie sites like Netflix. Yet before I ditched all of these shite multimedia streaming sites, I ditched something else: Twitter.
When I first got a twitter account, I felt encouraged to do so to keep up with the games industry after watching a talk by Rami Ismail (don't ask me which one, the talk was probably a couple years old when I watched it already). Anyway, several years later and after gingerly climbing out of my shell I ended up deleting my twitter account. It did take me until the site had been bought by the cringiest man on planet Earth, after a couple of attempts at using Mastodon which could not come close to the bad-old-days twitter experience before it went from bad to worse. But I got there before I ditched my streaming services. I tried Bluesky as well, but besides the great quality NSFW posting going on over there things were dire. It was down to Discord alone. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Discord and similar group-messaging-apps are a lot more interaction focused than sites like Tumblr or even twitter could be which felt a lot more accessible for letting half-formed thoughts fall from my mind. Albeit in the fucked up short-form content posting way that gives a tiny buzz of excitement on every engagement notification.
As a result, for a few years now I have lacked a public space on the internet to crystallise my thinking. Until now at any rate. This website is most certainly a personal one, but it's also, I hope, an honest one at the time of writing (my thoughts and feelings do change - old posts are not always representative of my current views and understanding as time goes on). You're welcome to stay and read, explore my digital outlet. I don't know what you or I will get out of it, but that's part of the fun! Another good chunk of the fun is the technical side of running a website. For NERDS!!1! (like me lmao).
Anyway. That's why I'm here I guess. Projects I care to share may get posted here so stay tuned and bookmark this site. I intend to do a write up soon about why I made the site how it is (was?) and the power of SSI (how intriguing you must be thinking). Catch you on the clickside!
